Selling old mobile phones
With many mobile phone providers offering new or low price handsets when you take out a new mobile phone contract, we have probably all noticed that we have actually started to accrue old mobile phone handsets in our drawers at home.
What we may not realise is we could actually sell our old handsets and not only de clutter and recycle our phones, but also make a little extra money. There are quite a few companies which are interested in buying old handsets, and as most of them are web based you would need to go onto their websites to find out the example payment amount for your old phone.
Cash for Old Mobile Phones Criteria
Companies which buy old mobiles will need to know:-
1) The Make of your Phone
2) The Model
3) If it is in Working Order
4) Is it in Good Condition
A price will then be calculated as to how much they would be willing to offer you for your handset. If you are happy with the price and decide that you want to go ahead, then they will send you a jiffy bag to put your phone into and send to them Free of Charge.
However, if your phone is lost in the post they will not be responsible and so it may be worth checking with the post office the costs and insurance cover when sending your handset Recorded Delivery with a signature or even Special Delivery dependant on how much your phone is worth.
When the company receives your phone they will check it matches the description you gave and if so they will send your payment.
If it does not match they will contact you with an amended offer, if you do not want to accept this they will return the phone to you free of charge.
Before you Post your Used Mobile Phone
Before you send off your handset check:-
* You have set your phone back to manufacturers settings if it is PIN Protected
* It is fully charged so that is can be tested
* You have removed the SIM card
* You have deleted any personal information from your handset, some mobile phone purchase companies will actually provide you with a tool to help you do this
* You have switched your phone off before posting
* If you have the charger you do not need to send it as it is not needed, you could keep it as a spare or sell it on Ebay or at a Car Boot sale.
Making Money from Mobile Phone Handsets?
There are a number of ways in which you can turn your old handsets into cash for example:-
* Compare prices offered on the various mobile phone purchase sites.
* Sell your handset on Ebay (Check what you phone is currently selling for and if this is more profitable then use this option, though this may be a little more work).
* Recycle your phone for charity, but make sure you check how much your phone could be bought for. The reason being that although this is a great option as you are not actually spending money out of your own pocket, you may actually get more from a sale, be able to donate more and have the option of adding Gift Aid which is 28%.
* If your phone is worth nothing you can still Recycle your phone and earn Clubcard Points with companies such as Tesco.
If your mobile phone currently does not work due to a dead or missing battery consider how much more you would be paid if you phone did actually work. The reason for this is that is might actually be cost effective to go out and buy a cheap new battery and although this means spending before hand, it might actually work that you are offered much more than the cost of the battery for sending a working phone as opposed to a non working handset.
So off you go, dig out all your old mobile phone handsets and once you have found them remember to make a note of:-
* Make
* Model
* Does it work
* Is it in good condition
Once you have this information, start your search to find who will pay you the most for your mobile. Bearing in mind some old handsets are worth over £200 so you really could be quids in! You may find that your handset isn't worth a penny, but you may still choose to send it off as at least you know it will be disposed of safely and you will be rid of something that you never would have used again.
